FRIDAY FUNNIES W AN UPDATE... 09/28/2012
**The funnies are below the update. Please feel free to bypass 'GO' and land directly on 'Boardwalk' if you so desire. I will completely understand...
~~~~~~~~~~
It's been a bit of an odd week. I've been enjoying the some what cooler temps and thinking Fall had finally arrived, when this alert appeared in my weather browser...
...HOT WEATHER FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...
A HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE ALOFT AND OFFSHORE FLOW WILL BRING VERY HOT AND DRY WEATHER TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY. MONDAY AND TUESDAY WILL BE THE HOTTEST AND DRIEST DAYS...ALTHOUGH SUNDAY AND WEDNESDAY WILL STILL BE RATHER HOT. VERY SLIGHT COOLING AND HIGHER HUMIDITIES WILL BEGIN ON WEDNESDAY...WITH GREATER COOLING AND MOISTENING FOR THURSDAY THROUGH THE REST OF NEXT WEEK AS HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT WEAKENS AND ONSHORE FLOW RETURNS.
EXPECTED HIGH TEMPERATURES MONDAY (10/1) AND TUESDAY (10/2):
BEACHES......................80S. A FEW MILES FROM THE COAST...85 TO 95. SAN DIEGO COUNTY VALLEYS AND INLAND ORANGE COUNTY.........MID 90S TO MID 100S. INLAND EMPIRE................100 TO 110 (this is my area). MOUNTAINS BELOW 6000 FEET....80S TO MID 90S. HIGH DESERTS.................LOW 90S TO LOW 100S. LOW DESERTS..................100 TO 110 (also my area).
PERSONS PLANNING TO BE OUTSIDE IN THE HEAT DURING THE LATE MORNING AND AFTERNOON HOURS SHOULD STAY HYDRATED. DRINK PLENTY OF NON-ALCOHOLIC FLUIDS AND AVOID STRENUOUS OUTDOOR ACTIVITY IF POSSIBLE...
Goodbye dreams of Fall and hello Summer once again. Believe me, this is not an Indian Summer, it's just more of the unbearably hot weather we've had for what feels like forever.
Yep... you can tell I'm a beach weather type gal. Temps are almost always 20+ degrees cooler and that includes any breezes that may be blowing at the time.
For the record... the 'cooling trend' they are forecasting will be low 80's to mid 90's. *sigh...
~~~~~~~~~~
Monday & Tuesday were both quiet days since I'm since dealing with all that stuff that I have no wish to talk about and so we will continue on with the week. *grin...
~~~~~~~~~~
Wednesday - I had been locked up long enough and headed out for a Wally World run and Silver Streak (car) wouldn't start. Seems the battery FINALLY decided to give up the ghost after my putting 182,250 miles on it.
Yes... it was the original battery and I suspect it hung in there that long because most of my driving was long distance. I averaged 4 hours a day getting to and from work in Irvine, Orange County and then Laguna Hills while working for Magic Software. Now that I'm driving less than 100 miles a month I believe it was more than due to simply die a quiet death and that it did.
Since it was mid-afternoon, I decided to wait until Thursday to do anything about it knowing Wally World and the Martians (hmmm - a new rock band maybe?
) would still be in the same place and promptly walked over to K-Mart just for the exercise. Didn't purchase a thing, but the walk took care of the frustration levels (sort of) as well as killed my left hip. This is Silver Streak...
Thursday - I was up bright eyed and bushy tailed, even with only a couple hours of sleep. Promptly called Triple A to get a jump and then called Inland Chevy to let them know I was headed their way for a new battery and general service.
Triple A arrived in record time. Great driver, no need to provide any ID since he had all my information. He quickly tested the battery, said it was basically a 'goner' and a new one would be wise.
Then it was off to the Chevy dealership and in less than 2 hours I had a new battery, the tires has been rotated, maintenance was done, car was washed (2nd time in less than a week) and I was good to go.
The kid that did the maintenance work said the 'car was a beaut and in great shape.' The gentleman that set up the appointment confirmed the car was indeed a limited edition Rally Sports Coupe and that if I ever decided to sell it I could probably get a pretty good penny for it, especially considering the condition it's in. All in all, very positive news.
Wally World was next and a totally non-eventful trip except that I think I've become addicted to their White Cake Square with a thick decadent layer of buttercreme icing. Every time I stop at the store I leave with one of those damned things! Keep this up and I will have more curves than I already do, but it is so hard to pass up!!
~~~~~~~~~~
Then, as if everything else hadn't happened, Thursday went totally south when Michael called and told me he had been hit by a truck while he was jogging (broad daylight & at a cross walk!!) and it was only by sheer will power, on his part, the guy didn't completely run him down as he went around the corner.
This happened last Sunday and apparently the guy left the scene of the accident. Michael was able to get the license plate number, made it home on his own & called the paramedics and sheriff's department.
Not going to go into major details, but he has been off work since he was hit, has seen his doctor, had a series of x-rays of his left leg, hip, shoulder and is now waiting for an MRI of the shoulder to determine what kind of internal damage was done. Seems the driver has gotten off scott free at the moment and that makes no sense what so ever. All I can do is try to remain calm and see what happens next. Not an easy thing to do...

~~~~~~~~~~
No plans for Friday or the weekend, so perhaps simply vegging is the best thing to do. All the stress and frazzled nerves are creating havoc in the way of ongoing headaches (yes... Fibro related) and since car repairs took precedent over the medical herb re-certification, I think I'm going to get cozy with some bubbly, a bottle or two of wine and a couple of good novels. Now... if I only had some PURPLE HAZE I'd be in 7th heaven...
~~~~~~~~~~
A Friday laugh...
Very clever indeed!!

Prayers and a candle each for both of you. I hope life settles to a calm and balmy for you soon.
cointreaux?
A semi-quiet week here. Rain off and on. After seeing the caption Stop The World, thought I'd leave you a video with those words in it.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ray4SeegoKc&feature=player_detailpage#t=3s
yes, we will be back into the triple digit temps this weekend. :(
but this is really not new as we usually have a heat wave late in the year.My prayers go out to Michael. May he get well soon. People can be ruthless at times and for the driver not stopping after the accident shows immaturity and may he get whats coming to him. Anyway, enjoy that glass of wine and have a lovely weekend!!!
Since you have no plans for this weekend..come over to London and we can have a ball!
what's my kitty cat doing in your bicycle basket?
your streak is beautiful. have a great weekend ps.
Oh dear, so sorry to hear about Michael. I had a weird dream about something similar to this. Not sure what had happened but when this culprit vehicle drove away the license plate had like 15 digits to it. I was like, no way I can remember that one.
I'm sure they'll catch the person if he was able to get the license plate on that truck.
About the weather, so you're saying it's gonna be hot outside? If you'll be outside during the hottest time might I suggest a wet t-shirt contest? lol Hey, ya gotta stay hydrated don't ya? LOL
Oh no... So sorry to hear about your friend. Hope he gets better, and I really hope justice is served to the hit and run driver. On the flip side, now you have an extra reason to dole out the TLC...
@JadeMaster2 - Appreciate the prayers and positive thoughts, JM2.
Thank you for recommending.
@starmanjones - Now that would work as well. YUMMY...
@Zoz36 - I love that song. Extreme did have a way with words. Loved the share. Thank you.
Rain would be a wonderful thing, but I think that may be in the future for us.
Thank you for recommending. Appreciated.
@buddy71 - SoCal does have interesting weather patterns. I can deal with Santa Ana's, just not used to the intensity of the desert heat.
@MissNzisa - Appreciate the positive comment, my dear.
Thank you for the recommend.
@andreas_d - What a wonderful invitation, Andreas. Be careful, I might just take you up on it, my friend. *smile...
Thank you for recommending. Appreciated.
@promisesunshine - She or he wanted to see a little of SoCal. LOL... I'm hoping for a totally boring weekend...
Thanks for the car compliment. I do love that little car.
@olwd - Haven't done the wet T thing in ages. In this case, I'll be inside with the AC going. That's way too hot to be outdoors!!
@armnatmom - My TLC has to be long distance since he isn't doing much driving at the moment. Best I can do is a card, text messages and phone calls for now.
Sorry about Michael's accident. Wonder if the truck driver told the police that he was jay walking or something. But regardless, the guy should have stopped and helped Michael and taken him to the hospital.
may be you can go and visit him and make him feel better.OMG, I hope both you and Michael are feeling better or at least on your way there. Here's to hoping the weather starts to cool for you this weekend if not there's sure has to be a shuttle up north somewhere cooler. I'll be toasting to both your recoveries tonight as I crack open my own bottle and try and decompress myself!
My bf would TOTALLY agree with you on the "real women have curves"!!! I'm so ready to lose some of mine, but he keeps over feeding me, to keep me curvy. sigh. I'm just really glad that my curvatiousness doesn't stop him from jumping my bones all the time! LOL!!! EVERY freaking morning I'm awakened to his being "awake" and his crooning sweet things in my ear...such as "you're so freaking sexy...you have the most amazing body...i love you so much, i hope you know that...etc.". Yeah...I swoon.
I hope you're feeling better now! XOXOXOXOX
I love the two old ladies talking about passwords and wanting to use the word incorrect.
Sounds like Fall has taken a step back there and is allowing summer to stick around for a while.
The days are in the low 60's here and nights get as low as 30, and it feels so good to lay underneath the quilt and breathe the crisp Fall air.
Happy you got your battery and car fixed, and that is a good looking car.
Sending prayers Michaels way and hope he is back to 100% soon.
Hugs sweet lady
@ZSA_MD - The story the guy told is interesting and full of contradictions which makes it even more interesting. I'm sure the truth will come out in due time. For now, Michael has asked for personal space and I'm honoring that request. *sigh...
@wyckdstorm - Happy decompress time, Storm. Anybody that has to work for a living and is dealing with what is taking place in your life deserves more than 1 bottle of the good stuff. Cheer, little lady!!
Thank you for the recommend. Truly appreciated.
@beneath_this_mask - Sounds to me like you both have a great deal to smile amount. Starting a day in that manner will make the sunshine brighter. LOL...
